Litter Bug Litter Bug Why Do You Litter?

Cigarette butts.  What's the deal on smokers and their butts.  I suppose a cigarette butt is pretty small in the big picture.  Maybe it is even biodegradable.  I don't know for sure, but I do know that when one comes flying out of someone's car, that's annoying.  Maybe I need to chill.

I have seen smokers take the whole ashtray and dump it one place.  Perhaps it is better if they throw their butts around one at a time.  Of course there are plenty of garbage cans around that you'd figure a person driving a car would happen by one at some point.  Ah, but we kick the smokers around enough as it is.

This post's anecdote is about the vigilante response to littering:

One time I was driving my car minding my own business with a friend of mine along.  We were pulling up to a red light with a number of other cars.  A passenger in another stopped car in front of us and in the other lane dropped a pop cup out the window.  My friend jumped out of the car, picked up the cup and threw it back in the open window.  I can't remember if there was still pop in the cup, but in the interest of a good story, let's say there was and it went all over the place.  Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!!!!!!

  2. Harsh! And after the OP has valiantly protected the identity of "the friend", who seems to have quite a habit of jumping out of the car to harrass other drivers or passersby for inconsequential misdemeanours - how's that for gratitude?

  4. I don't think that friend was me, if that's what you're getting at, Lisa. If it was, I have no memory of it.

  5. My daughter stops by and visits about every week or two, usually not for long, but every weekend I pick up butts in my driveway, if it's a short visit, or there and my backyard if it's a longer visit! It drives me crazy, especially when she butts out on my wood pile! I smoked until I was in my early 30's and must admit I never thought about my butts? Another reason smoking is stupid, it would appear to make you act in a stupid manner. Cheers, xelA.

  6. No dad, you deffinatly do not need to chill. After a summer of sweeping countless butts off the ground, I for one know that it is annoying. I could sweep for as long as I wanted but I could never get them all. I never used to think about it much, when a smoker would throw their butt on the ground, but after last summer it just disgusts me. So to all you smokers out there, please throw your butts in the garbage.

  7. You know what I think are great, those "butts stop here" receptacles for people to dispose of their butts in. I mean, the sign catches your attention, and makes you giggle. Why is it that people still don't get it though? I have seen many of these receptacles with butts on the ground all around them, but with none inside. Are smokers really that bad that they are trying to take a stand against those hillarious signs? Do they really not care about the cleanliness about the world around us. They shouldn't even be smoking at all. The butt stops here, no more if's, and's or but's, smokers should be stopped.
